Answers

  1. What is the first thing I should write on a CV/Resume?

The first thing you should write is your name in a larger size font and in bold with all of your contact details below it.
  2. Why should I have a Key Skills section and what should I include in this section?

It is important to have a Key Skills section because it highlights to an employer your key skills and more importantly provides a practical example of why you have that key skill. You should include 5 Key Skills and provide a practical example for each one. Try to keep the practical example to one sentence so that the employer can read it efficiently.
  3. Should I include all of my Education details in the Education section?

No. You need to remember that an employer does not want to know every qualification you have attained since you were 12! Just start with your most recent qualification and add others that will be relevant to you getting the job being applied for.
  4. What details should I include in the Work Experience section?

You should include your employer, your position, what your duties were and what you actually achieved in the job – this is probably the most important part.
  5. What should I include in the Hobbies/Interests section?

You should try and highlight sports or activities that you participated in as a team. Also, you may want to highlight any volunteer work here.
  6. Who should I have as references?

You should have one academic reference and one from your previous work experience. It is also essential that you ask these people to be references so that they know when someone contacts them.
